How Mosie Baby Helped Us Conceive Our Little Pumpkin

My wife and I wanted to give it a few months of trying for a baby as easily and DIY as possible, and if that didn’t work we would try in a clinic setting. We thought, well plenty of people get pregnant at home without medical intervention so who’s to say we can’t! We were using a known donor (aka a best friend) and luckily this friend moved to our city (for other reasons besides being near us due to future baby) and wanted to try conceiving at our home where we would all feel comfortable and safe. Months before we started trying to get pregnant, I ordered Mosie baby and tracked my ovulation originally using the pee sticks, and then came across the fertility tracker Inito which tracks your cycle much more thoroughly than just day of ovulation.

We decided to start trying last September and had a wonderful and easy experience using Mosie. Our donor did their thing in our room and left the collection cup on the side table, and then we went in after and did the insemination. The first time we tried to make it ceremonial/special but after that my wife and I decided I would do the inseminating myself and not make a big deal out of trying to make it sexy or be something beyond what it was- transferring sperm through a syringe! (But cheers to all those couples who want and successfully make it a sexy event!) On the second month of trying we unintentionally invited a bunch of friends over for dinner on the day of my ovulation (comically misread the calendar) and since they all knew we’d started trying, nobody was phased when we casually announced we would be doing an insemination later during dinner prep.

Our friend/donor went downstairs to do their thing and afterwards I went down to do the insemination myself while my wife continued to cook dinner. While I was laying there for a few minutes afterwards with my hips on a pillow (who knows if this actually helped!), I could hear my friends upstairs singing and playing music and smell the delicious dinner that was cooking. I thought to myself, if there was ever the perfect moment for a baby to be conceived, this is it, with my friends and wife and favorite foods and music surrounding me. After 15 minutes of relaxing and envisioning the future baby I had been dreaming of for years, I went upstairs and joined in with my friends.

Two weeks later, on the morning of our annual Halloween/birthday party, I took a pregnancy test and burst into joyful tears when we saw the two pink lines. Flash forward one year later, my beautiful and delightful 4 month old daughter lays in my arms as I type this story. This coming weekend is our Halloween party and I can’t wait to reminisce about that morning, one year ago, when we found out our home insemination had worked, and we had a baby on the way!
